PAGASA warns of thunderstorms, heavy rain in Metro Manila and nearby provinces

PAGASA issued a thunderstorm advisory on Friday warning of moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds in Metro Manila and several provinces, including Pampanga, Bataan, Batangas, Bulacan, Rizal, Quezon, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Tarlac, Cavite, and Laguna.

Heavy rain caused by localized thunderstorms hit parts of Metro Manila on Friday afternoon, leading to knee-deep floods in Tomas Morato Avenue in Quezon City around 5 p.m.

Residents are advised to take precautionary measures against flash floods in low-lying areas and landslides near mountain slopes as the weather bureau warns that heavy to intense rain showers with lightning and strong winds may persist within two hours.

PAGASA earlier predicted that rain will become more frequent as the country transitions into the wet season, with La Niña conditions potentially developing during the June-July-August period according to PAGASA.
