Senators investigate Mayor Alice Guo for alleged Chinese ties and POGO links

Alice Guo, the mayor of Bamban in Tarlac, Philippines, is under investigation by the Senate due to allegations that she may be a Chinese spy and has ties with illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

The investigation stems from concerns over her background, including questions about her birthplace and schooling.

Lawmakers have pushed for Guo's suspension after evidence of serious misconduct was found by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) task force.

Ombudsman Samuel Martires has granted a preventive suspension against Guo and two other officials involved in Bamban’s POGOs.

The Ombudsman's action follows a complaint filed under the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, alleging that Guo failed to revoke a business permit despite an expired license.
