Philippines' virus reproduction number at 1.5, may hit almost 16K daily next week

The Philippines' coronavirus reproduction number increased to 1.5 as of Sunday, with daily new cases potentially reaching almost 16,000 next week, according to OCTA Research.

From August 8 to 14, the country's average daily new cases were around 11,000, raising concerns about the effectiveness of current interventions and the impact of the Delta variant.

NCR's reproduction number rose to a critical 1.85, indicating one positive case could infect two people, while 13 local government units had critical numbers of daily new cases.
