Philippines logs 14,895 new COVID-19 cases, second highest daily tally

The Philippines reported 14,895 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, August 19, marking the second-highest daily tally since the start of the pandemic.

Active cases rose to 111,720, the highest number since April 21.

Of these active cases, 95.3% are mild, 1.8% asymptomatic, 1.3% severe, and 0.7% critical.

Total recoveries increased by 8,248 to reach 1,648,402 while new fatalities of 258 pushed the death toll to 30,881.

On Tuesday, August 17, the country recorded 10,035 new cases with active cases reaching over 105k.

Tuesday's report noted that six laboratories failed to submit data on time due to low laboratory output on Sunday.
