NegOcc declares state of calamity after Typhoon Odette

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson declared a state of calamity on Monday due to Typhoon Odette's destruction.

The typhoon caused 38 deaths, damaged or destroyed over 20,000 houses, and inflicted P5 billion in losses.

Lacson expects the casualty count and damage estimates to rise as communication lines are repaired.

On Saturday, Lacson announced plans to declare a state of calamity after Odette displaced more than 93,000 people and killed at least eight.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported P5.982 billion in damages across various sectors.
