Bulusan Volcano erupts, PHIVOLCS raises Alert Level 1

Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon experienced a phreatic eruption on Monday morning, according to PHIVOLCS.

The eruption began at 4:36 AM and ended by 5:00 AM, with plumes reaching up to 4.5 kilometers high, causing ashfall in parts of Irosin, Juban, and Magallanes towns.

PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol warned that another phreatic eruption is possible within the next few days due to 89 volcanic earthquakes recorded around Bulusan in the past 24 hours.

On Tuesday morning, PHivolcs observed a small ash emission reaching only 100 meters tall from 5:51 AM to 5:37 AM.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) coordinated with local disaster risk reduction offices and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to remove ash from streets, while the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed food packs to affected families.

Phivolcs raised Alert Level 1, indicating a state of low-level unrest with potential for further phreatic eruptions.
