Meralco wins PBA game with late comeback

Meralco secured their first win in the 2024-25 PBA Commissioner's Cup with a thrilling 111-109 comeback victory over Phoenix at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday, November 29.

Akil Mitchell, Meralco's import player, made a crucial one-handed shot with just 1.3 seconds left to give his team the lead and seal the win after Phoenix had led by as much as 23 points earlier in the game.

Returning Aaron Black also played a key role in Meralco’s comeback, contributing 15 points, eight rebounds, and five assists despite missing four key players due to injuries.

Meralco's resilience was evident with 33 points scored in the final quarter compared to Phoenix's 18, overcoming their earlier deficit of up to 23 points.

Mitchell contributed significantly with 27 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and six steals, while Chris Newsome added 23 points for Meralco.

Coach Luigi Trillo praised his team’s collective effort during the postgame press conference.
