Mikey Williams returns to SGA after hiatus

Basketball player Mikey Williams returns from a year-long hiatus to reinforce Strong Group Athletics (SGA) for their upcoming campaign in the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship, set to begin on January 24.

Williams arrived in Manila on Tuesday and immediately joined practice under head coach Charles Tiu, who expressed excitement about working with him again after their successful partnerships with Mighty Sports that resulted in championship wins in the William Jones Cup and Dubai games.

The SGA roster includes former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, Rhenz Abando, Dave Ildefonso, Jason Brickman, Ange Kouame, Andray Blatche, NCAA MVP Allen Liwag, Tony Ynot, Justine Sanchez, as well as international stars Malachi Richardson and Terry Larrier.

Williams' return reunites him with Tiu after their championship run in 2019-2020 and follows a contract impasse with TNT that cut his PBA stint short in 2023.

Dwight Howard, although not part of the team, opted not to play for SGA's opponents in Dubai last year when SGA lost to Al-Riyadi in the final.
