OFWs affected by travel ban get PHP10K aid, group calls for exemption

Some 566 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the temporary travel ban due to the coronavirus outbreak have received PHP10,000 cash assistance from OWWA and DOLE.

Migrante International called for an exemption of returning OFWs, residents, and students from the travel ban imposed on Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

The group cited that the ban affects thousands of OFWs' income and puts them at risk of termination.

DOLE confirmed that stranded OFWs will receive P10,000 cash assistance, but Migrante criticized this amount as insufficient for the inconvenience faced by the workers.
