Mayors defy national advice on face shield use

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is maintaining his stance on discontinuing the use of face shields, despite national officials advising against it.

The Sangguniang Panglungsod deferred approval of the mayor's request to scrap mandatory face shield usage but did not reject it outright.

Manila has also stood firm on its policy to make face shield use non-mandatory except in medical facilities and hospitals.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that local government units should wait for a final decision from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) before removing the requirement for face shields.

The mayors of NCR agreed to make wearing face shields optional, with mandatory use remaining in critical places like hospitals and public transportation.
