Marikina police arrest man for distributing false disqualification materials on Mayor Marcy Teodoro

Marikina police arrested Marvin Bacaycay early Monday morning for distributing false materials claiming that Marikina Mayor Marcelino 'Marcy' Teodoro had been disqualified by the Commission on Elections.

Bacaycay, not a resident of Marikina but from Sampaloc in Manila, was invited to help distribute the printouts and was arrested around 2 a.m. for a promised payment of P1,200.

Police investigations are ongoing into Bacaycay's motive behind distributing false information that Teodoro had been disqualified despite no final decision from Comelec on his certificate of candidacy cancellation.

Teodoro remains a candidate and his name appears on the ballot as he runs for a seat at the House of Representatives in Marikina's first district, with his wife Maan running for mayor.

Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo, who is also running for mayor against Teodoro’s wife, denied involvement in spreading black propaganda and emphasized that Comelec can confirm Teodoro remains a candidate pending final decision on the cancellation of his COC.
