Cities test essential workers for COVID-19

On Tuesday, May 19, the cities of Las Piñas and Marikina began mass testing for COVID-19 among essential workers.

In Las Piñas, about 300 to 500 frontliners including garbage collectors and tricycle drivers were tested on the first day.

Garbage collectors expressed relief at being included in the tests while tricycle drivers agreed to wait for days if necessary.

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro announced that mass testing is underway for at least 6,000 tricycle drivers who have resumed operations under modified quarantine rules.

As of Tuesday, more than 1,084 tricycle drivers in Marikina had been tested with three testing positive for COVID-19.
