Escudero says no special Senate session for Duterte impeachment yet

Senate President Francis Escudero stated that there is no indication from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. about calling a special session for Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial. Escudero added that previous impeachment cases were not expedited and the Senate will proceed according to its calendar.

Former Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio warned that without a special session, the Senate may not have enough time to complete Duterte's impeachment trial before Congress adjourns on June 30th, potentially pushing the case to the next Congress.

Vice President Sara Duterte stated she will not attend the impeachment court at this early stage and reiterated her denial of making assassination threats against the President.
