Marcos directs PNP to prevent violence after De Lima hostage-taking

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to enforce measures necessary to prevent acts of violence following an incident where former Senator Leila de Lima was briefly taken hostage on Sunday.

Officer-in-charge Press Secretary Cheloy Garafil stated that President Marcos made this directive after three inmates, including Feliciano Sulayao Jr., a suspected Abu Sayyaf sub-leader, took De Lima as hostage and injured a police officer.

The incident occurred when Sulayao and two other inmates attacked a police officer distributing food rations at the PNP Custodial Center's maximum compound.
