Marcos calls special meeting over WPS vessel collision

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. called for a special command conference on Monday to address the recent collision between Chinese and Philippine vessels near Ayungin Shoal.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is tasked with investigating the incident within five days, as per Marcos's directive.

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro condemned China’s actions as a serious escalation that disregards international law.

Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, newly appointed PCG Commandant, stated that his team will determine the extent of damage incurred by Philippine vessels involved in the resupply mission to BRP Sierra Madre.

The collision occurred when Chinese vessels hit two Philippine boats during their routine rotation and resupply mission near Ayungin Shoal, drawing condemnation from Philippine leaders and the international community.
