Manila declares Aug 4 as Carlos Yulo Day

The city council of Manila plans to file a resolution declaring August 4 as Carlos Yulo Day to commemorate the gymnast's back-to-back gold medal wins at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna announced that August 4 will be recognized as a working holiday and that the city government has scheduled recognition rites for Yulo on August 19, where he will receive an award and a PHP2 million incentive from the local government.

Yulo, aged 24 and a native of Tondo district, won his first gold on August 3 and his second on August 4, making history in men's gymnastics vault final and floor exercise event.

The Philippine Sports Commission has pledged P10 million to Yulo under the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.

Yulo is also set to receive additional rewards including P6 million from the House of Representatives, a condominium unit worth P24 million from Megaworld, and other benefits from private companies.

A heroes' welcome parade for Yulo and other Olympians is expected to take place in Manila, stretching from Aliw Theater to Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
