LTO suspends pickup driver's license for 90 days over counterflow driving

The Department of Transportation announced Monday that a pickup driver's license has been suspended for 90 days following a viral video showing counterflow driving in Malolos, Bulacan.

A show cause order was issued by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) requiring the registered owner and designated driver to explain their actions, with immediate surrender of the driver’s license and placement under 'Alarm' status pending further investigation.

The driver may face charges for Driving Against Traffic, Obstruction of Traffic, and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle, according to an LTO statement.

A hearing is scheduled for August 22 at the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division in Quezon City.

This action comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called on motorists to be responsible and patient to ensure road safety.

In the viral video, a dark grey Nissan pickup was seen blocking the opposite lane during heavy traffic; a police officer later assisted the driver back into the proper lane.
