DOTr suspends license for 90 days after child caught driving

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has suspended for 90 days the driver's license of an individual who allowed a child to control the steering wheel in a mall parking lot in Parañaque City.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon issued a show cause order directing the driver to appear at the LTO office on Aug. 20 to explain why he should not face administrative charges for reckless driving following the incident on August 12.

Dizon emphasized that allowing children without student permits to drive is illegal and warned of potential consequences beyond license suspension, including jail time.

The viral video showing the child on the driver's lap while steering the car along mall parking driveways highlights concerns over child safety and adherence to traffic laws in the Philippines.
