Ivermectin trials to start Oct. 15

The recruitment of participants for the clinical trials on ivermectin in the Philippines will start on Oct. 15.

DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña clarified that initial analysis is expected by December 2021 and the project could be completed by February 2022.

The World Health Organization supports ivermectin clinical trials but does not endorse its use for COVID-19 treatment.

Philippine clinical trials are internationally peer-reviewed, aligned with the International Clinical Trial Consortium for ivermectin, and aim to provide local data on safety and efficacy.

DOST plans to include 1,464 participants in the trial, a combination of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients, funded by DOH.
