CIW: 47 COVID-positive inmates await retest, frontliners work shifts

Forty-seven inmates at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong who tested positive for COVID-19 are awaiting retesting due to delays in lab testing.

The CIW has recorded a total of 49 cases, including two fatalities. The remaining 47 patients are isolated and stable.

Frontline workers at the CIW, such as nurses Besa and Corro, are working 12-hour shifts to monitor and care for the infected inmates.

A new recovery area with capacity for up to 50 inmates was built by the International Committee of the Red Cross to isolate and treat those who test negative after retesting.
