Taal eruption could cost P4.3B in lost income

Taal Volcano's eruption could result in a foregone income of up to PHP4.314 billion, equivalent to 0.17% of Calabarzon's economic output in 2018.

The agriculture and fishery sector is expected to account for almost three-quarters or PHP3.167 billion of the lost income.

NEDA Undersecretary Adoracion Navarro stated that the current impact on the economy remains minimal, with some establishments in Tagaytay City resuming operations.

Navarro estimated the foregone income at PHP4.3 billion based on a preliminary assessment, which is lower than an earlier estimate of PHP7.63 billion due to initial fears of more violent eruptions.
