Ilocos Norte braces for Tropical Storm Carina with flood advisories, rockslide reports

Residents in Ilocos Norte are bracing for Tropical Storm 'Carina' (Gaemi), which is bringing light to moderate rains to the region.

Marcell Tabije, local disaster risk reduction and management officer, urged residents living in flood-prone areas to stay vigilant and prepare for potential weather escalation on Monday.

Tabije reminded local governments to activate Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Committees and implement measures such as monitoring vulnerable groups and ensuring equipment readiness.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration issued a flood advisory warning people in specific areas of Ilocos Norte and Abra about the possibility of moderate to heavy rains over 12 hours.

Due to heavy rains, a rockslide was reported along the Nueva Era-Pinili Road on Monday while traffic on the Pancian, Pagudpud road has been disrupted by road clearing operations.

The Ilocos Norte Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office prepositioned around 7,000 food packs and non-food items in satellite warehouses across several towns to support evacuations.

Ilocos Norte received new equipment from the Civil Defense including rigid hull inflatable boats and rescue vehicles to enhance disaster preparedness.
