Iloilo City evacuates high-risk areas due to Tropical Storm Carina

The Iloilo City government has initiated preemptive evacuations in communities at high risk due to Tropical Storm Carina.

Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer IV Darwin Joemil Papa said during a press conference on Monday that over a thousand houses could be affected by the northeast monsoon and peak high tide.

Mayor Jerry Treñas signed Executive Order No.107 Sunday evening, identifying specific barangays for evacuation, including those in Molo district, Arevalo, and City Proper.

As of 9:45 a.m. Monday, at least 15 houses were destroyed and 16 others partially damaged, displacing 38 families of 138 individuals across various barangays.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office provided food and non-food items to displaced families in evacuation centers and activated the community kitchen.

Financial assistance is being prepared for families with destroyed or partially damaged homes, offering PHP10,000 for fully destroyed houses and PHP7,000 for partially damaged ones.
