Gyms, cinemas reopen at 50% capacity in MGCQ areas

The government has allowed gyms, cinemas, computer shops, bars, and other business establishments in MGCQ areas to reopen at 50% capacity starting June 1.

DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez stated that businesses under Category 4 are still prohibited from reopening in GCQ areas but can operate at reduced capacity in MGCQ regions.

In addition to gyms and fitness centers, travel and leisure industries such as amusement parks, cinemas, theaters, karaoke bars, libraries, museums, tourist destinations, travel agencies, personal care services, and pet grooming services are also permitted to open with strict health protocols.

Landlords can now collect rent from tenants whose businesses were not allowed to operate during ECQ, MECQ, or GCQ, but a 30-day grace period remains for residential and commercial rents without interest or penalties.
