House panel probes Duterte, Carpio, Yang in PHP11B shabu smuggling

Former Bureau of Customs (BOC) intelligence officer Jimmy Guban testified during a House quad-committee investigation implicating Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte, businessman Michael Yang, and Sara Duterte's husband Manases Carpio in the smuggling of PHP11 billion worth of shabu at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) in 2018.

Guban accused them of owning magnetic lifters used to conceal drugs and mentioned other individuals including Davao City Councilor Nilo Abellera Jr., former environment undersecretary Benny Antiporda, and Paul Gutierrez, who all denied involvement.

The House panel has issued a show cause order to the personalities mentioned by Guban in his sworn statement following his testimony on Friday, August 16.

Paul Gutierrez, Executive Director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), strongly denied any links to Duterte, Carpio, and Yang, questioning Guban's credibility due to inconsistencies in his testimony and previous contempt citations.
