Groups seek SC reconsideration of VP Duterte impeachment

Religious groups and other citizens who have filed a third impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte are requesting the Supreme Court (SC) to reconsider its July 25 decision deeming the articles of impeachment unconstitutional.

Several groups, including Roman Catholic priests Reverend Father Antonio Labiao Jr., Reverend Father Joel Saballa, and Reverend Father Ruben Villanueva, have again called on the SC to overturn its ruling during an en banc session expected today.

The group emphasizes the transcendental importance of Vice President Duterte's impeachment as a tool for accountability and a direct remedy for Filipinos to address issues with high-ranking officials.

Petitioners argue that their third complaint strictly followed procedure, disputing the SC’s introduction of new guidelines mid-process and urging oral arguments on the case.

Legal counsel Amando Virgil D. Ligutan stated his clients were dismayed by the ruling, maintaining that their complaint adheres to constitutional requirements.
