Phil mayors consider ECQ extension beyond April 4

Some mayors in Metro Manila are considering endorsing an extension of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) beyond April 4 due to rising COVID-19 cases.

Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco and Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro noted that a week-long ECQ might not be sufficient to reverse case trends, suggesting a two-week period could be more effective.

NTF medical adviser Dr. Teddy Herbosa supports extending the ECQ beyond April 4 if it helps reduce transmission rates, emphasizing the need for continuous pandemic response measures like testing and contact tracing.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno expressed support for an ECQ extension based on data, prioritizing public health over economic concerns.

Health experts propose extending ECQ in Metro Manila and nearby provinces until April 18 to prevent a surge in cases post-ECQ.
