Sen Bong Go files resolution to investigate Duterte's drug war

Sen. Bong Go filed Senate Resolution No. 1217 in the Senate on Thursday to investigate the former president's drug campaign.

Go stated that the resolution aims to examine the conduct of the drug campaign and identify potential legislation to address drug issues more comprehensively, emphasizing its fairness and primary goal to protect Filipinos.

The senator highlighted the positive impacts of the Duterte administration's drug campaign, noting increased safety for citizens and a reduction in criminality.

Go also mentioned that conducting an inquiry alongside the House of Representatives' quad committee could reveal the true purpose of the drug campaign while addressing concerns about potential human rights violations.

Retired police colonel Royina Garma alleged during a previous hearing that Go coordinated with National Police Commission Commissioner Edilberto Leonardo to set up financial rewards for police officers involved in killings, but Go denied these claims.

Sen. Risa Hontiveros suggested that the Senate committee of the whole would be better suited to conduct the investigation rather than the Senate panel on public order and dangerous drugs.
