GILAS PILIPINAS secures second place in FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers

GILAS PILIPINAS' recent losses in the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers have made their path to success in the upcoming Continental meet more challenging.

Despite starting with a strong 4-0 record, GILAS faltered in their final two matches against Chinese-Taipei and New Zealand, securing second place behind New Zealand in Group B.

The team now faces a tougher road to the cup as they avoid top seeding that would have allowed them easier matchups in the August tournament.

Coach Tim Cone expressed disappointment after losing 87-70 to New Zealand, stating their preference for a higher seeding.

Heavyweights like Australia and South Korea secured top spots in their groups, while other teams such as China, Jordan, Iran, Lebanon, Japan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia also qualified.

Four additional slots will be contested in upcoming Qualifying Tournaments involving third-placed teams from the qualifiers.

GILAS will spend the next months evaluating and considering adjustments to address recent issues, including manpower concerns due to Kai Sotto's absence.
