Ernie Gawilan finishes sixth in men's 400m freestyle S7 at Paris Paralympics

Decorated para swimmer Ernie Gawilan finished sixth in the finals of the men's 400m freestyle S7 event at the Paris Paralympics on Monday, September 2.

Gawilan placed sixth with a time of five minutes and three seconds, finishing behind Italy’s Federico Bicelli (4:38.70), Ukraine’s Andrii Trusov (4:40.17), and Argentina’s Inaki Basiloff (4:40.27).

He had topped Heat 2 earlier in the day but was slower in the final, well behind his personal best of 4:54.24 set in the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Gawilan also competed in the men's 200m individual medley SM7 event over the weekend without advancing to the finals.

The Filipino athlete remains determined despite facing strong competition and concludes his third Paralympics stint without a medal, highlighting his perseverance against physical challenges.
