Para swimmer Angel Otom finishes fifth in women's 50m butterfly S5 at Paris Paralympics

Para swimmer Angel Otom has qualified and competed in the final round of the women's 50m butterfly - S5 event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Otom secured fifth place with a time of 45.78 seconds, finishing behind China’s Lu Dong who won gold with a new world record of 38.17 seconds.

Lu Dong's performance broke the previous world record set by He Shenggao last year, while Sevilay Ozturk took bronze with 43.70 seconds.

This marks Otom's second final appearance at the Paris Paralympics following her sixth-place finish in the women's 50m backstroke event earlier.

Only one Filipino para athlete remains in competition in Paris as Cendy Asusano competes in the women's javelin throw - F54 on Saturday.
