PAGASA warns 5 areas may hit dangerous heat index of 42°C on Wed
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that five areas in the country may experience dangerous levels of heat index on Wednesday.
Guiuan in Eastern Samar, Catarman in Northern Samar, Dumangas in Iloilo, CBSUA-Pili in Camarines Sur, and Aparri in Cagayan are expected to reach a heat index of 42°C.
When the heat index reaches dangerous levels between 42°C and 51°C, people may experience symptoms such as heavy sweating, fatigue, dizziness, fainting, rapid but weak pulse, nausea, and vomiting.
PAGASA advises the public to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wear protective gear like hats and long-sleeved clothing, and schedule strenuous activities for cooler periods of the day.
In case of emergency, PAGASA recommends moving affected individuals to a shady spot with legs elevated, having them sip cool water if conscious, removing excess clothing, applying cool water or ice packs to the skin, and seeking immediate medical attention.
Baguio City in Benguet is expected to have the lowest temperature on Wednesday at 27°C.
