Palace verifies number of sickened health workers

Malacañang is verifying the number of healthcare workers with severe cases of COVID-19 to ensure accuracy.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque expressed doubt over the reported low numbers, suggesting a review by the Department of Health (DOH).

The DOH has distributed all 19 checks worth P100,000 each for health workers who contracted severe COVID-19 while on duty and issued checks to families of 32 deceased healthcare workers.

As of Tuesday, June 9, the total number of health workers infected with COVID-19 reached 2,741, with recoveries at 1,598 and deaths at 32.

The deadline for distributing sickness and death benefits to affected health workers was set by President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday, June 7.
