FEU sweeps men's volleyball first round, beats La Salle

Far Eastern University secured a clean sweep in the first round of the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball tournament by defeating La Salle Green Spikers, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

FEU improved to a perfect 7-0 record in the season and will head into the second round of the tournament with their flawless record intact.

Rookie Mikko Espartero led FEU with 27 points while Dryx Saavedra added 17 markers and Lirick Mendoza contributed 13, helping them recover from a slow start to secure victory.

La Salle dropped to a 4-3 record after losing their first round matches despite efforts by Noel Kampton who registered 18 points and Glen Ventura with 15 points.

In another match earlier in the day, Ateneo defeated University of the East Red Warriors, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16, finishing their first round campaign with a 4-3 win-loss record.
