DOH, OCTA back efficacy of AstraZeneca vs. South Africa variant

DOH and OCTA Research support the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine against the South Africa variant, countering claims that it is ineffective.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that studies suggesting ineffectiveness are based on small samples and lack conclusive evidence.

Dr. Guido David from OCTA clarified that their group disagrees with fellow Fr. Nicanor Austriaco's statement that the AstraZeneca vaccine is 'ineffective' against the South Africa variant.

Presidential Spox Harry Roque said there is no reason to hesitate in getting an AstraZenaca vaccine despite new variants, noting a low presence of the South African variant in the Philippines.
