Eala faces Ostapenko again in Eastbourne Round of 16

Filipina tennis player Alexandra "Alex" Eala will face Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko again in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Lexus Eastbourne Open, following their first encounter where Eala won a stunning upset.

Eala recently climbed to No. 74 in the WTA rankings and secured her place in the main draw with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lucia Bronzetti of Italy.

In Miami earlier this year, Eala defeated Ostapenko, earning direct invites to all major tournaments including Wimbledon set for June 30 to July 11 in London.

Eala's journey includes previous victories over Turkey's Zeynep Sonmez and a comeback against top seed Hailey Baptiste of the United States in qualifiers, advancing her to the main tournament with confidence.

Her recent success at the Miami Open, where she defeated three Top-10 players and former Grand Slam champions, solidifies her place among elite tennis players.
