Carpio: Duterte must lead on West Philippine Sea issue

Retired Supreme Court justice Antonio Carpio criticized President Rodrigo Duterte for remaining silent on Chinese ships in the West Philippine Sea.

Carpio emphasized that Duterte needs to lead in defending the country's island territories and exclusive economic zone, as China only listens to a nation’s top leader.

Despite strong statements from Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Carpio warned that Duterte’s silence could send mixed signals to Beijing.
