Duterte calls for ceasefire with CPP due to COVID-19

President Rodrigo Duterte has called for a ceasefire with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and New People's Army (NPA) due to the COVID-19 threat.

CPP founder Jose Maria Sison stated that Duterte should make a formal request through the Government of the Republic of the Philippines negotiating panel to initiate peace talks.

Sison added that the NDFP would study the offer seriously, considering both the fight against COVID-19 and the resumption of peace negotiations.

The CPP/NPA also emphasized the need for government funds to be directed towards combating the virus, including providing adequate health workers, facilities, equipment, and medicines.
