Duterte 'generally fine' after medical check-up in Netherlands ahead of ICC appearance

Former President Rodrigo Duterte reported that he is 'generally fine' after undergoing a medical check-up in The Netherlands ahead of his first appearance before the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Friday.

The Philippine Embassy in The Hague confirmed that Duterte received medical care and spoke with a consular officer, as well as former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea via phone on March 13.

Duterte requested assistance from the embassy for visits by his legal counsel and an unnamed family member, and the embassy has submitted these requests to the ICC Registry.

Despite posts falsely claiming Duterte had gone missing, government officials clarified that his arrest adhered to domestic and international legal procedures under Republic Act 9851.

The former president's initial appearance before the court is scheduled for Friday night (Philippine time) where he will be read his rights and the alleged crime he has committed.
