DPWH: Over 5,000 flood control projects under construction

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Tuesday that over 5,000 flood control projects are currently under construction across the country.

These ongoing projects complement the more than 5,521 completed between July 2022 and May 2024, highlighted by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in his SONA.

Public Works Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan emphasized that recent flooding caused by Super Typhoon Carina and habagat (monsoon rains) would have been worse without these flood control measures.

He noted that overpopulation has strained the drainage system's capacity, leading to flooding issues.

DPWH is coordinating with local government units and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority for constructing local drainage systems connected to the national network.
