DOTr supports EDSA busway, studies enhancements

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) continues to support the EDSA busway, emphasizing its efficiency and effectiveness in serving over 62 million passengers in 2024.

In January alone, more than 5.5 million passengers used the busway, with an average daily ridership of about 177,000.

DOTr Executive Assistant Jonathan Gesmundo highlighted that preserving the EDSA Busway is crucial for maintaining fast and effective public transport in Metro Manila.

A feasibility study involving private sector expertise is underway to explore ways to enhance the system without worsening traffic conditions.

MMDA Chair Romando Artes has suggested considering the eventual removal of the EDSA busway to improve MRT-3 capacity, but this recommendation remains under study and would not be implemented until significant improvements are made to MRT-3.

The DOTr is committed to improving commuter experience on the EDSA Busway without exacerbating existing traffic conditions.
