DOST seeks FDA approval for VCO as COVID-19 supplement

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is seeking FDA approval to make virgin coconut oil (VCO) a supplement for COVID-19 patients.

Clinical trials have been approved by the Ethics Committee, with plans for both hospital-based and community-based studies.

In hospitals, VCO will be given to moderate to severe cases of COVID-19, while in communities, it will be incorporated into food provided to patients and high-risk groups.

DOST is funding these clinical trials and has already approved a diagnostic kit for commercial use that can perform up to 26,000 tests.
