DOLE allocates PHP455.2M for TUPAD jobs in CALABARZON, Bicol after Kristine

Over 251,000 workers in Bicol and Calabarzon were severely affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

DOLE has allocated PHP424.4 million to provide temporary jobs for more than 72,000 displaced employees in Calabarzon through the TUPAD program.

Beneficiaries will work for 10 days from October 25 to November 2024 on community clean-up, debris clearing, and rehabilitation of public infrastructure at the highest prevailing minimum wage rate in the region.

In Bicol, DOLE has started distributing PHP30.8 million in wages under the TUPAD program to affected workers, with payouts beginning on Oct. 28 and running until Nov. 5.

Each beneficiary received a salary of PHP395 per day for community development projects such as cleanup drives and community-based farming initiatives.

The death toll due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and Typhoon Leon has risen to 145, with Bicol being the most impacted area followed by Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
