DOJ files charges against 30 PNP officers for drug cover-up

The Department of Justice has filed charges against 30 police officers, including two generals, for their alleged involvement in a 'grand conspiracy to cover up criminal activities' within the Philippine National Police (PNP).

This case relates to an October 2022 drug seizure involving PMSgt. Rodolfo Mayo and over 900 kilograms of shabu worth PHP6.7 billion.

The Department of Justice is now considering withdrawing the cases against Mayo and Ney Atadero due to false allegations and fallacious evidence, as revealed during an inquest by Manila prosecutors.

Upon reviewing the evidence presented, Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon stated that the cases were filed based on procedural violations under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

The arrests of Mayo and Atadero did not follow proper procedures, leading to a simulated arrest conducted to cover up the mistake.
