DILG orders LGUs, PNP, BFP to ensure Holy Week safety

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has directed local government units (LGUs), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to enforce appropriate measures ensuring public safety during Holy Week, following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s call for heightened security.

Local chief executives are instructed to convene peace and order councils to develop contingency plans, ensure adequate transportation and emergency medical services, and deploy law enforcers in critical areas such as roads, churches, and public places.

LGUs must also mobilize resources for garbage collection and conduct clean-up operations after religious activities.

The PNP and BFP have been placed on 'red alert' status to prepare for the influx of travelers during Holy Week, which began on April 13 (Palm Sunday) and will end on April 20 (Easter Sunday).

In Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has set up additional police assistance desks at major transportation hubs to handle increased passenger traffic.
