Cebu barangay faces charges for fiesta despite ECQ

Cebu City's Barangay Basak San Nicolas held a religious procession on June 27 despite being under enhanced community quarantine, leading to fourteen people, including the barangay captain, facing criminal complaints.

Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu warned that similar violations will result in charges and called the incident a 'blatant disregard' of government protocols.

City Councilor Edu Rama and DILG Secretary Eduardo Año criticized the event, with Año ordering CIDG to investigate and file charges against organizers.

Barangay Chairperson Norman Navarro said he was unaware of the procession and condemned it.
