DigiPlus urges lawmakers to reconsider online gambling ban

DigiPlus Interactive Corporation, which operates popular online games like BingoPlus and ArenaPlus, urged lawmakers on Wednesday to reconsider plans for a total ban on online gambling.

Chairman Eusebio Tanco warned that such a ban could affect the livelihood of over 50,000 Filipino families across the industry and put at risk more than 3,000 direct DigiPlus employees.

Tanco emphasized DigiPlus's commitment to regulatory compliance and expressed concern that responsible operators are being unfairly targeted along with illegal sites.

The chairman argued that banning licensed operators would push players towards unregulated, potentially harmful platforms.

DigiPlus called for a fact-based dialogue 'grounded not in fear or stigma but in the shared goal of building a stronger, safer, and more accountable gaming industry.'

The company noted that it has been implementing measures like rigorous know-your-customer checks, mandatory age verification, self-exclusion tools, and responsible-gaming prompts since November last year.
