Gov reviewing online gambling ban due to addiction concerns

The Philippine government is reviewing the impact of online gambling and considering potential bans due to concerns over addiction and financial ruin among Filipinos.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin clarified that while the ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) remains in place, other forms of online gaming are still under study.

Bersamin stated that the government is examining the broader implications of allowing certain types of online gaming to ensure they do not contribute to scams or fraud.

The President will deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address on July 28 and has taken a hands-on approach in preparing this annual report to the people.

Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David likened addiction to online gambling to modern-day slavery, emphasizing the social cost of such activities.
