DepEd sec-elect Angara takes over; 5 officials quit

Five high-ranking officials from the Department of Education (DepEd) have resigned ahead of incoming Secretary Juan Edgardo 'Sonny' Angara taking office on Friday, July 19.

The resigning officials include Undersecretary Michael Poa and four others previously mentioned: Undersecretary Nolasco A. Mempin, Assistant Secretaries Sunshine A. Fajarda, Reynold S. Munsayac, and Noel T. Baluyan.

Angara, who has been meeting with DepEd officials since before the official turnover ceremony scheduled for Thursday, expressed his willingness to work with anyone as he takes over the agency.

He thanked the outgoing officials for their cooperation during the transition period, noting that classes will open on July 29 and the budget season is approaching, making his appointment crucial.

Angara highlighted the urgent need to review the existing curriculum and improve the implementation of the K-12 program as part of his priorities as DepEd chief.
