DepEd confirms career progression plan for teachers

Department of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo 'Sonny' Angara confirmed talks with other government agencies to implement career progression for public school teachers as directed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

During his third State of the Nation Address, Marcos vowed that teachers would no longer have to retire at the lowest rank due to lack of promotion opportunities.

The Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Executive Order No. 174 series of 2022 were ceremonially signed by DepEd, DBM, CSC, and PRC, ensuring around 140,000 positions for teachers in 2025.

Under the career progression system, teachers will have opportunities for promotion in either teaching or administrative tracks, with additional salary grades available under both tracks.

The Department of Budget and Management has allocated PHP1.1 billion for implementation in 2024, with an additional PHP6.1 billion planned for 2025 to support the program.
